The Lichen receives Innovation Patent

In December last year The Lichen received an Innovation Patent from IP Australia. An Innovation Patent is for "The owner of any new and useful invention that involves an innovative step..." ipaustralia.gov.au
Whilst not a full-blown-all-protective patent, the Innovation Patent is the first step to owning the copyright to a design in the eyes of the establishment. With The Lichen to feature on the ABC's New Inventors program in early 2008, it was important to acquire some kind of ownership
of the idea. For other designers who have discovered an 'innovative step' patents can be applied for, relatively stress free, from IP Australia's site.
While The Lichen was developed through a somewhat idealistic framework, production possibilities had, consequently been balked at, with four and a half years between conception and now, the boundaries have become a little more blurred.
