Unlike the dismissive quality of the on/off “flick of a switch” in conventional lighting, AquaLuma requires the user to engage in a more patient and caring way. The
switching of the light occurs through the somewhat meditative practice of pouring water from one vessel to another. Through this gentle and considered action and response, the object aims to portray a sense of living. If this ‘livingness’ is achieved the relationship between the two is enriched and a responsibility of the user towards the object is gained. This relationship secures the sustainability of the object and the experience of the user.
