Plantation hoop pine, red velvet, hinges
Malka was a piece that I designed and made for my grandchildren, it looked at how you might embed ritual and longevity into an object. Malka was designed to be used on birthdays, when the presents would be placed in and around the box. My family has always had a strong birthday ritual and this design aims to keep that alive.
The birthday person would then turn fit the pieces together to form a chair which they would sit on during the birthday meal.
Malka was the name of my grandmother's grandmother.
