3000kilometer camel and donkey trek
Then & Now: Landmark: 2000
A self-funded and self-initiated two year project with my partner. Neither of us had handled animals before, nor done extensive travel off-road. The first year saw us acquiring the animals, training both them and ourselves, making all our pack gear and a few dollars. 2001 was spent entirely on the road, travelling from Bathurst to the Snowy Mountains, then along a few rivers out to Broken hill, this distance (2000kms) was by foot. In Broken Hill we bought a wagon, trained the camels to harness and made our way back home. We were subjected to an incredible amount of generosity from the people who’s places we passed through, and remain thankful to those people and the animals that made it so much better than we could have thought.
