Alice Springs Aquatic Centre Public Art
Then & Now: Commission: 2011
Two works were launched as part of the opening of the new Alice Springs Aquatic and Leisure Centre in April; Patchwork Tiles and Wallpaper.
Patchwork Tiles involved the community be collecting peoples left-over renovation tiles and forming these into two colour and tone coordinated feature walls, one in each of the male and female changerooms.
Wallpaper is a 30 x 2.5m design on the interior of the space that works both spatially and educationally. From a distance the wallpaper seems to merge from plain coloured to detailed black and white patterns. On closer inspection the details are insects, birds and plants of the local Ilparpa Claypans.
